JOHANNESBURG Restaurant Week, starting September 1, will provide Johannesburg residents and visitors 10 days of dining pleasure. Described as a celebration of culinary and cultural diversity, Johannesburg Restaurant Week will offer patrons specially created menus and discounted dining experiences around the city. Each participating restaurant has been given carte blanche to devise menus that reflect their own personal style and offering. “The Johannesburg Tourism Company is proud to stage the Johannesburg Restaurant Week, the first of what will become an annual event. A city’s restaurants, like many of its other attractions such as museums, theatres, markets and art galleries, play an integral part in communicating its cultural and social spirit,” says Deon Viljoen, ceo of The Johannesburg Tourism Company. According to Viljoen, the week is an opportunity to encourage people from outside Johannesburg to stay over for a night or two and experience the city’s many fine restaurants. Says Viljoen: “Johannesburg Restaurant Week is a superb vehicle to position Johannesburg as the culinary hotspot in the country. We have the finest restaurants, talented chefs and unique flavours which fuse to present a gastronomic culinary experience.” (Natalia Thomson)
