THE Township Crawling Festival (TCF) is taking place from April 10 to 11, when Gugulethu residents, in the Western Cape, will open their homes to local and international tourists. The festival is sponsored by South African Airways and aims to promote tourism in the township through income generating initiatives and creating job opportunities. The Gugulethu residents will be providing catering for visitors, with some homes being transformed into tea gardens. Local crafters will exhibit their products and local artists will perform on a stage. Buses will depart from the V&A Waterfront. Places of interest that will be visited include the Guga Sithebe project, an arts and craft centre, and the heritage site, a hostel where PAC and ANC members were beaten during the apartheid years for participating in an illegal march.
